If Trump fires Mueller or Rosenstein, Democrats running for U.S. House in 2018 must campaign on impeaching Trump
Under normal circumstances, I would not advocate for candidates for seats in either house of Congress openly campaigning on a platform that included support for a plan to impeach and remove the sitting President of the United States. However, the current state of affairs in this country is not normal circumstances.
There is already a sizable segment of the Democratic base voters who are demanding the impeachment of President Donald Trump over, among other things, his role in the collusion between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and the Russian government. At this time, I would consider it to be too risky of a political strategy for Democratic candidates in the U.S. House of Representatives to openly campaign on impeaching Trump, as that would simply allow Republicans to accuse Democrats of attempting a political power grab.
However, if President Donald Trump fires either Special Counsel Robert Mueller or U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, that would, in an of itself, completely justify Democratic candidates publicly supporting a movement to impeach Trump.
It is inherently clear that Trump is not only disrespectful of the rule of law in this country, but that he also wants to undermine the rule of law. This became even more obvious in Trump's responses to a search warrant against Michael Cohen, who is Trump's political fixer and is under criminal investigation. Trump has described the Cohen search warrant as, among other things, a "witch hunt" and an "attack" against the United States, neither of which are true, as the search warrant was lawfully carried out by federal authorities. Furthermore, Trump has sought to fire Mueller, who has been investigating Trump and his allies, Trump has sought to end the Mueller probe, and Trump is reportedly considering firing Rosenstein, who is responsible for overseeing the Mueller investigation.
I will say this 10,000 times if I have to do so...if President Donald Trump fires either Special Counsel Robert Mueller or U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, that would, in an of itself, completely justify Democratic candidates publicly supporting a movement to impeach Trump. Furthermore, it is imperative that Americans of all backgrounds advocate for the rule of law in this country.
